If there’s one thing I’ve learned after becoming a mom myself, it’s that pregnancy has a funny way of messing with your sense of time.
Some days feel like they last forever. You’re counting kicks, trying to get comfortable enough to sleep, wondering if you’ll ever be able to tie your shoes again. Then baby arrives, and suddenly those nine months feel like they disappeared in the blink of an eye.
I think that’s why maternity photos have become so meaningful to me.
They’re not about having the perfect dress or knowing exactly how to pose. They’re about pressing pause for a minute and remembering this season before it becomes part of your family’s story.
If you’re thinking about booking maternity photos in Northeast Ohio, here are a few things I always tell my clients.

I usually recommend scheduling your maternity session somewhere between 28 and 34 weeks. By then, your bump has really started to show, but you’re hopefully still feeling comfortable enough to walk around, laugh, and enjoy the experience.
If you’re expecting twins or your pregnancy has been a little more complicated, it may make sense to schedule a little earlier. Every pregnancy is different, and that’s completely okay.

This is probably the question I get asked the most. My biggest piece of advice? Wear something that feels like you.
You don’t have to wear a fancy gown unless that’s your style, I have a large client closet of luxury gowns available for your session. Some moms feel beautiful in a flowing dress, while others are happiest in a cozy knit sweater, jeans, and bare feet in a field.
I tend to recommend soft, neutral colors because they let the focus stay where it belongs—on you and your growing family. Creams, warm browns, muted greens, dusty blues, and earthy tones photograph beautifully against Northeast Ohio’s natural landscapes throughout the year.
If your partner or kids are joining, don’t worry about matching perfectly. Coordinating colors always feels more natural than everyone wearing the exact same thing. The goal isn’t to look trendy. It’s to create photographs that still feel like you years from now.

Some of my favorite sessions have happened on days that looked questionable.
Ohio weather has a mind of its own. One minute it’s sunny, the next there are clouds rolling in, and somehow we still end up with the most beautiful light. If there’s lightning or it’s unsafe, we’ll absolutely reschedule. But clouds? Wind? A little mist?
Those things don’t scare me. Sometimes they’re what make a gallery feel alive.
Nature doesn’t always have to cooperate for something beautiful to happen.

Almost everyone tells me this. And honestly? I don’t expect you to know what you’re doing.
You don’t have to practice poses before your session or worry about where to put your hands. I’ll guide you the whole time with simple prompts that help you focus on each other instead of the camera.
We’ll walk.
We’ll talk.
Your kids might pick flowers, chase bugs, or stop to throw rocks in the lake. Those moments aren’t interruptions. They’re usually my favorite photographs. Because years from now, those little in-between moments are often the ones you’ll miss the most.

If you’re expecting and looking for a Northeast Ohio maternity photographer, I’d love to help tell this part of your family’s story.
Whether we spend the evening walking along Lake Erie, wandering through a quiet field, or embracing whatever weather Ohio decides to give us that day, my hope is that you leave with photographs that feel honest, timeless, and unmistakably yours.
